Curriculum & Programs
EUREKA MATH/ENGAGE NY
Our math curriculum is all about building knowledge - not just skills. Building deep, lasting understanding rather than just memorizing. Knowledge about the real world, rather than hypothetical scenarios. Knowledge through consistent core skill development, rather than reinventing the wheel with each lesson. And the knowledge that builds upon itself for richer connections throughout the learning process. Every child has unlimited potential and is capable of greatness.
Science
Our Science teachers work hard to make science interactive, exploratory and relate to the real world. Science classes follow the city aligned curriculum called amplify. Amplify uses readings, case studies and labs to support students in the learning process.
ENGLISH Language Arts
The Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) is an approach to literacy instruction for students in elementary and middle schools with two primary goals: to improve students’ reading and writing, and to help children become lifelong, confident readers and writers who display agency and independence through work with teachers, collaboration with peers, and independent work.
Social Studies
The New York City K-8 Scope and Sequence is a comprehensive resource that integrates national standards, the New York State Social Studies Core Curriculum (content, concepts, key ideas, understandings and performance indicators) and the NYS K-8 Social Studies Framework. Each yearly course of study is organized around a suggested time frame for core content guided by essential questions.
SPECIALS
Students will alternate each semester to have exposure to all different specials during the day. We currently offer STEM, Music, PE and Health. We are looking to continue to expand our offerings during the day and will keep the community updated. We have many additional programs offered after school and during our Saturdays club 22 programing.
RTI
RTI is a period where all students receive intervention on their specific needs. Students work in small groups on reading intervention, novel studies or debate team preparation. Students are grouped using multiple sources of data to ensure they are receiving the targeted instruction they need.
ADVISORY
Advisory is a course that happens first period Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This is a time for students and staff to check in socio-emotionally and academically. Each advisor has 10-15 advisees they are responsible for from checking progress reports, checking in on the mood meter and contacting families at home. Twice a month students will reflect on progress reports and their accumulated points. This allows students to be informed if they are on track academically to meet their goals for the year. Reflecting on points allows students to reflect on if they are meeting expectations (attendance, uniform, professional conduct) to ensure they have earned all field trips and celebrations
